Erosion Prevention with Aggregate
Once your tank is installed, protecting the surrounding pad is just as important as the tank itself. We advise placing a non-corrosive aggregate around the tank’s base.
This layer helps prevent erosion, maintains the integrity of the pad, and adds further stability to your water tank. Proper aggregate placement also enhances the overall appearance of your installation.
Managing Water Runoff and Drainage
For tanks installed on sloping sites, efficient water management is vital. Improper drainage can lead to water pooling around the base, which may cause erosion or structural damage. Implementing a drainage system that diverts water away from the tank prevents these issues.
In cases where the slope is significant, a retaining wall may be necessary to maintain the integrity of your tank pad.

Why Proper Tank Filling Matters
After your Pioneer Water Tank is installed, filling it with the recommended amount of water is a crucial step. This initial fill acts as an anchor, stabilizing the tank and preventing movement during high winds or storms. Following the water fill guidelines helps protect your investment, ensuring your tank remains secure for the long haul.
Compliance and Local Regulations
Before preparing your site, it’s important to check with your local shire or council regarding any regulations or restrictions. Every area has different guidelines for water tank installation, and staying compliant ensures a hassle-free process.
Our team at NSW Water Tanks is happy to help you navigate any local requirements and ensure your installation meets all necessary standards.

Steel water tanks offer a significant advantage in bushfire conditions, providing exceptional resilience when it matters most. In tests conducted by the CSIRO in collaboration with the Bushfire CRC, Pioneer’s steel tanks outperformed all others, maintaining their structural integrity even after enduring a 30-minute fire front.
Another standout feature is the Pioneer V-LOCK® wall profile, specifically engineered for water storage. Unlike generic tank panels, the V-LOCK® design was developed by Pioneer’s in-house team to deliver both functionality and visual appeal. This innovative design adds to the overall strength and durability of a Pioneer rainwater tank, making it a reliable choice for long-term water storage.
Customise your rural water tank

Good for you, good for the earth
Steel water tanks offer an eco-friendly advantage, thanks to their infinite recyclability. At the end of their long service life, they can be easily scrapped and melted down for reuse, reducing waste and conserving resources. In contrast, while poly tanks may be recyclable initially, their structural breakdown often leaves them unsuitable for recycling, resulting in landfill waste once they can no longer hold water.
Water tanks also benefit the environment by helping to manage stormwater runoff. By harvesting rainwater, they reduce the volume of water flowing into streets and waterways, easing pressure on stormwater systems. When installed collectively in a neighborhood or town, rainwater tanks can significantly mitigate the risk of flooding and erosion, offering a sustainable solution for water management.
A Range of Water Tank Colours & Sizes
Pioneer Water Tanks offers a diverse selection of water tanks, ensuring there’s a perfect fit for your needs, no matter the size or style you’re after. With various options available, you can find a tank that complements your property’s aesthetic while providing reliable water storage.
To further enhance durability, these steel tanks are typically equipped with a sacrificial anode. This essential feature protects the tank walls by preventing corrosion, extending the lifespan of your water tank and ensuring long-term performance.
